I Hate PulseAudio

I know a lot of PA advocates will think I'm FUDding here, but I really do hate PulseAudio.

Let's try to phrase the problem I have with PulseAdio this way.

Why in the hell did Canonical see fit to put PulseAudio in as the default sound system for Ubuntu when ALSA was working PERFECTLY FINE?!

Seriously, if they were thinking they were solving any sound problems with Ubuntu by adding this stuff on, they were smoking something highly potent.

Types of People in the Tech Universe

Apple Fanboy - Ignorant fools who believe any and all of Apple's products are absolutely flawless and live up to the overhyping they receive. They usually own at least one iPhone, one iPod, use iTunes regularly, and have a Macintosh. They're a lot like Mac and Mac OS X fanboys, but they expand their devoted love to ALL of Apple's products. Usually thinks Steve Jobs is an innovative genius and thinks Apple created most the PC technology we use today.

The Ignorance of Some People

For those of you who have been reading my blog for some time, you may remember one person who thought his son was a cracker (Called a hacker in the article of course.) because his son was using Linux, acting like a teenager, and was actually a raver.

Well, it seems, recently, there was a Texan "teacher" (You'll see why that word is in quotes later.) who confiscated some Linux LiveCDs from a student, called it illegal, and then wrote Ken Starks of the HeliOS project and threatened him with legal action.

Anatomy of a Microsoft Shill Post

Take a look at this shot I got from a lively discussion I had with a Microsoft shill on the Ubuntu forums:

Note: I was not the one who used "Micro$oft" and set the shill off, but I sure enjoyed egging this idiot on.

Lets go over this. It is only a few points. But it is rather telling.

My RP Characters

This is a work in progress. These are not all of them by any means.

Murphy Strikes Again!

Yes, life always throws me for a loop.

And I was really looking forward to using that 500 GiB hard disk. Ah well, at least NewEgg has a reall good RMA policy that, unless fate has other plans, will allow me to have a replacement disk in only about a week.

Bill Gates - The former Dark Lord of the Microshit. Less a programmer and more a charismatic thief of source code and technology. He is the primary reason Microshit became the Evil Empire. Retired from his place as Dark Lord, though he still pulls the strings. Has a charitable foundation that donates money on the condition that charities and projects use Windows exclusively.

Whew!

Well, life always throws you for a loop. Things go really well for you and them BAM! You're trying to fix something bad that happened.

Luckily, though, I fixed my problem: A dead DVD-RAM drive that was a little too close to the next Ubuntu release to my liking. A couple weeks and $35 later I have a nice, new drive.

Hurd? Yeah right!

Someone asked me about GNU Hurd, some question I won't put up here, but it inspired me to write about my opinions about why I think the Hurd will not succeed, assuming that it's ever actually completed. Starting with the biggest reason:

2.6.27-rc8 And The Poor E1000e

As I sat at my computer with a nice, steaming cup of green tea, I turn to various Linux news sites and realize that the upcoming Linux 2.6.27 kernel is taking a long time to reach completion, when I read that release candidate 8 for that kernel has been released.

Unfortunately, it seems something has gone horribly wrong for the driver for the e1000e wireless network chipset. Linus Torvalds had this to say about this scary development in the kernel:

"If 2.6.27 is released with e1000e driver corrupting EEPROM contents on
